CANON INFORMATION
CHARACTER NAME: Jun Gungjeon
CANON: Original
HISTORY: --
STRENGTHS: Confident - Jun believes in himself and his own abilities. He doesn't give in to panic easily because he rarely actually thinks he's in a situation he can't handle, and he's hard to intimidate.
Analytical - Jun is quite smart when it comes to problem solving. As long as he doesn't let his big head get in the way he's actually pretty good at reading people and at coming up with clever solutions to problems. And, although his amnesia problems have left his knowledge kind of fragmented, he is actually quite well educated for his age.
Loyal - Jun stands up for his friends and will go through hell to help them out if he has to. He has so little in his life, with no past, that he refuses to give up the people he has made bonds with. He doesn't want to lose any more than he already has, which means it'll take a LOT to make him betray you.
FLAWS: Pride - The dark side to Jun's confidence. He hates to admit it when he's struggling with something. He naturally tries to throw himself into the front of things even when he is totally in over his head. He hates the idea of other people thinking he's not capable. At the very beginning of his quest, despite not knowing who or where he was, Jun insisted on leading the party from the front.
Amnesia - Beyond the obvious inconvenience of not remembering any of his past, Jun's lack of memories leaves him feeling perpetually off balance. In his mind, a person's past is like a building's foundation. It holds you up and shapes who you are. Jun doesn't HAVE that though, so he always got this sense of being half a step from falling apart because he's got nothing inside him to ground him. It causes Jun to behave unpredictably and to lash out when he's under a lot of stress. And, for the record, Jun's memories are not sealed away. They are actually GONE. They were all destroyed.
Possessive - Jun doesn't like giving things up. Without a past to anchor himself, Jun relies on his present more than he should. He hates to give up the things he has and the friends he's made because he feels like that's all he has left to define who he is.
CANON ABILITIES: Jun started out manipulating a force that was present throughout his world called Arche, which allowed him to do a variety of magical tricks that I'll get to in a moment. Eventually, he discovered that Arche was actually the willpower of God which was so powerful that it radiated throughout the world. With this realization came the understanding that, in theory, ANYONE could radiate that kind of power, and so he was able to stop relying on Arche and start relying on his OWN power. The power of Atma, the power to impose your will on the world through sheer determination and do the impossible. Jun holds the power of god. In theory, he can do literally anything he can imagine.
"Do the impossible" is all well and good, but there's a few specific tricks Jun relied on for the most part:
- Atma Strings: Jun can weave his power into magic threads that can be cast out to wrap around stuff, squeezing them or pulling them around or tying them up or any other number of creative uses. Useful stuff, string.
- Staff arts: Not necessarily supernatural, but Jun is skilled melee fighter. His weapon of choice is a quarterstaff.
- Blue Moon: Jun's ignition weapon. This powerful artifact appears to be a blue quarterstaff, but is actually a small ocean that has been compressed into an impossibly small space via Arche/Atma. Anyone with the proper skill can tap into it to create and control torrents of water and ice. Blue Moon's waters can also be used to create a mild healing effect. Jun's main method of attack with this was to create a swirling whirlpool around him that he could control to slam foes from all directions at once, making it difficult to do anything while near him. Using Blue Moon's full potential is very tiring, however.
AU INFORMATION
AU CHARACTER NAME: (This can be the same as canon name if appropriate)
AGE: 18
GRADE: Undergrad
AU BACKSTORY: Jun Gungjeon grew up in constant competition with his sister, Eunseo Gungjeon, for the title of heir to the powerful Gungjeon mage clan, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. In the end, however, Eunseo was chosen as the heir. In a fit of jealousy, Jun ambushed her and they had a big fight that resulted in her getting fatally wounded. As she lay dying, with no POSSIBLE reason to lie to him at this point, Eunseo revealed the truth. Their father was not the man they thought he was. He was actually Han-jae Gungjeon, their great great great great great grandfather, who had been using an artifact known as the Walking Crown for centuries to hop into the bodies of his own heirs and thus live forever and keep amassing power. She had discovered this by accident, and had determined that while Han-jae was too powerful to take on herself, at the very least she could save her brother from this fate.
His mind reeling from this revelation, Jun acted rashly. He sold out his own father, telling a rival mage clan of a time that Han-jae would be alone without any defenses. While they launched an assassination attempt, Jun stole the Walking Crown and ran. He discovered that Han-jae Gungjeon, alone and unarmed against the a small army of assassins, had single handedly killed every single one of them. Jun knew he wouldn't be able to stay ahead of his father forever, so instead he made a rash bargain. He hid the Walking Crown in a highly secure bank vault in Switzerland, then contacted a powerful fae lord by the name of Efu, and made a bad deal in which Jun would owe Efu a future favor in return for which Efu would make it so no one could ever get the location of the Walking Crown from him again.
Efu fulfilled his end of the bargain to the letter, in the way of the fae. He completely obliterated Jun's memories, leaving him with no idea where the Walking Crown was, WHAT the Walking Crown was, who HE was, or any kind of memory about his past at all. Then Efu dumped Jun on the edge of Daybreak Academy, reasonsing that they were likely to protect Jun from harm, what with being heroic do-gooders for the most part. And Efu didn't actually want Jun harmed. He intended to collect on his debt, after all.
So Jun finds himself lost and confused by the front gates to Daybreak Academy, with no idea who he is or how he got here, carrying a magic staff, the clothes on his back, a wallet stuffed with an alarming amount of cash, and not a lot else.
AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: At the very start, Jun's situation is more or less identical to his OU counterpart's. He doesn't know a goddamn thing.
The big difference is OU Jun's life was one of constant upwards struggle and progress, while AU Jun's life will be more stable and slow paced due to the nature of RP. He'll have more time to get introspective on his problems. Without a constant goal to work towards, Jun will be MUCH more of a mess than he is in canon, and engage in all the angsty amnesia bullshit that his OU counterpart simply didn't have time for.
RACE: Human
SECRET SOCIETY: House Gungjeon is a reclusive mage clan from South Korea. They have a lot of influence, but are very subtle in how they use it, and prefer manipulating people from the shadows to actually acting in the open, even within the supernatural community. Most people don't even know they exist. Those they do generally seem to fear or at least respect their power and influence. Jun does not realize that he is related to it, or that it even exists.
POWERS: Rather than a nebulous "power of god" bullshit, this Jun is just a mage. He uses magic.
- Magic threads: Jun can create and control magic threads, which can be used to tie stuff up, drag stuff around, create triplines, etc etc etc. Useful stuff, thread. Unless he invests extra energy in them, they vanish into nothing a few seconds after he stops paying attention to them.
- Water magic: Jun can manipulate water. He can create water jets to push things, whirlpools to drag them, bubbles to trap things, turn water into ice (which he can also manipulate), and so on. He cannot CREATE water and has to rely on what's in his environment. Blue Moon makes this rarely an issue.
- Blue Moon: Jun's magic weapon. This powerful artifact appears to be a blue quarterstaff, but is actually a small ocean that has been compressed into an impossibly small space via powerful enchantments. Anyone with the proper skill can tap into it to create and control torrents of water and ice. Jun's skill with water magic makes Blue Moon especially useful. And if all that fails, you can still hit people with it.
- Healing magic: He's not very GOOD at it, but his talent at water magic lets him heal others to a limited extent as long as he has access to water. Blue Moon can usually supply that for him.
- Unscryable: As part of his deal with Efu, Jun's location is almost impossible to uncover via scrying abilities of any kind. Information about his past is similarly difficult to dig up by supernatural means, though ordinary detective work will do fine.
HOUSING: Kohaku's in Aube so lets stick Jun somewhere in Lum
